- To deliver targeted advertising to you: We use your information to develop and display personalized content and advertising (and work with third parties who do so) tailored to your interests and/or location, and to measure its effectiveness. This includes personalization for our integrated ad platform, allowing us to suggest local businesses and services most relevant to your inferred preferences and planning needs.
- For other business purposes, including data analysis and product improvement: We use your information for other business purposes, such as data analysis, identifying usage trends, determining the effectiveness of our promotional campaigns, and to evaluate and improve our Services, products, marketing, and your experience. This includes using data from AI interactions, planning sessions, venue selections, and user feedback (as detailed in Section 3). We may use and store this information in aggregated and anonymized form so that it’s not associated with individual end users and doesn’t include personal information. We will not use identifiable personal information for these purposes without your explicit consent.
3. HOW DO WE USE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE?
In Short: MESA leverages AI and machine learning to understand your needs, generate personalized recommendations, facilitate conversations, and continuously improve our services.
MESA utilizes Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning technologies to power core features of the Services, such as understanding natural language queries, generating event and venue suggestions, and adapting recommendations based on your preferences and feedback. Here’s how AI is used and how it relates to your data:
3.1 Input Data for AI Processing: When you interact with our AI features (e.g., typing “I want to plan a dinner in Vegas tomorrow for 5” or providing your dietary needs and interests), your textual input, alongside your profile preferences (dietary preferences, allergies, interests), location data, and other context (date, time, guest count), is sent to our AI models. This input is processed to understand your request, manage the conversation flow, and generate relevant AI Content.
3.2 AI Processing and Content Generation:
- Intent Recognition & Entity Extraction: Our AI models process your natural language input to identify your intent (e.g., planning a meal, finding a venue) and extract key entities (e.g., location, date, time, number of guests, cuisine type).
- Recommendation Generation: The AI leverages this extracted information, combined with data from third-party APIs (as described in Section 4) and its internal knowledge base, to generate personalized venue recommendations, activity suggestions, and itinerary drafts.
- Conversational Flow: The AI maintains conversation context to ask relevant follow-up questions, refine recommendations iteratively, and guide you through the “Who, When, Where” planning phases.
- Output: The AI generates conversational text responses, structured data for visual outputs (e.g., venue thumbnails, addresses, details), and potentially “Add to Calendar” links or invite suggestions.
3.3 Data for AI Training and Service Improvement: Your interactions with the AI are vital for MESA’s continuous improvement. We use various forms of data for AI training and product enhancement:
- Interaction Data: Your specific queries, the AI’s generated responses, your selections (e.g., which venues you “like” or “save”), and explicit feedback (e.g., venue ratings, guest preferences after an event) may be logged and associated with your user ID for internal analysis and troubleshooting.
- Anonymized & Aggregated Training Data: To train and fine-tune our core AI models, we primarily use aggregated and anonymized data from AI interactions. This data is stripped of personally identifiable information where possible before being used for model training or refinement. This helps improve the performance, accuracy, relevance, and safety of our AI models over time without directly linking raw individual interactions to model training.
- Product Improvement: Data analysis (including usage trends and effectiveness of features) is performed on aggregated data to evaluate and improve the overall Services, products, marketing, and your experience.
3.4 Data Security for AI Interactions: We employ robust security measures, as detailed in the “HOW DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION SAFE?” section, to protect the data exchanged with our AI systems. Your queries and personal preferences are processed in secure environments.
3.5 Limitations of AI: While powerful, MESA’s AI models are not infallible. The AI Content generated by MESA is for informational and planning purposes only and should not replace your judgment, professional advice, or due diligence. Always exercise caution and common sense when acting upon AI Content. AI models can reflect biases present in their training data, may generate outputs that are unexpected, or might occasionally provide inaccurate, incomplete, or nonsensical information. MESA does not warrant that AI Content will be free from errors, biases, or offensive material.
4. HOW DO WE USE THIRD-PARTY APIS AND DATA?
In Short: We integrate with various third-party services to power MESA’s recommendations and planning tools. Data is shared with these services as necessary for functionality.
The Application’s core functionality relies on integrating with and querying various third-party Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and services to provide comprehensive recommendations and information. These include, but are not limited to:

- Eventbrite API: For event discovery, details, and ticketing information. We send event search criteria and receive event listings.
- TripAdvisor API: For user reviews, ratings, and travel-related insights regarding venues. We send venue identifiers and receive review data.
- Google Gemini API: For advanced AI conversational capabilities, natural language understanding, intent recognition, and generative text generation. We send your natural language queries and preferences, and receive conversational AI responses.
- Other Potential APIs (e.g., Yelp, OpenTable, Resy, Uber, Lyft, Calendly, Google Calendar, Outlook Calendar, email service providers, SMS providers): For extended functionalities like reservations, transportation, and scheduling. We send relevant planning data (e.g., event time, location, participant contact info for invites) and receive confirmation or booking details.
4.1 Acknowledgment of Third-Party Terms: You acknowledge and agree that Your use of the Application and the services it provides is also subject to the respective terms and conditions, privacy policies, and acceptable use policies of these third-party API providers. MESA is not responsible for the content, accuracy, availability, or practices of these third-party services. You are solely responsible for reviewing and complying with any applicable third-party terms.
4.2 Data Sharing with Third Parties: You consent to MESA sharing Your anonymized, aggregated, or necessary non-personally identifiable information with these third-party API providers as required to facilitate the functionality of the Application (e.g., sending location data to Google Places API to get venue recommendations; sending event details to Eventbrite if you use their integration). MESA will endeavor to share only the minimum necessary data required for the service.
4.3 API Key Management: API keys for these services are securely managed by MESA on its backend (e.g., using Google Cloud Secret Manager) and are not exposed directly to the End-User.
5. HOW DO WE HANDLE ADVERTISING AND PERSONALIZATION?
In Short: We use data to personalize your app experience, including advertising, and may integrate with third-party ad platforms.
5.1 General Advertising: We may use third-party advertising partners, including Google AdMob, to serve advertisements within the Application. Their data collection and use are governed by their own privacy policies.
5.2 Personalized Suggestions & Integrated Ad Platform: To provide You with the best possible experience and relevant recommendations, we use the information we collect (including your planning inputs, preferences, location data, and interactions with AI) to personalize content and suggestions within the Application. This personalization extends to and will include:
- Local Business Suggestions: Tailoring recommendations for local businesses, venues, and services based on your expressed preferences, planning history, and real-time context.
